  • A round window and louvered vent (top photo, at right) draws attention to the striking entry outlined in brick. Columns and a trellised roof usher guests through the swinging cafe-style gates and up to the inviting front porch.
  • The square grids of the exterior are designed to accommodate future siding materials, such as plastic or fiberglass square or window modules, that can be changed as tastes and styles change.
  • The sunken great room (bottom photo, at right) is the center of attention, with its vaulted ceiling and two-story fireplace. The room is surrounded by the family living areas, such as the adjacent kitchen and dining room, the unique activity room and the loft above.
  • A curved glassblock stairway leads to the loft, which features a roomy exercise area, a children's study and a home office. Skylights and built-in desks typify the luxurious yet highly functional features found throughout the home.
When you hear "home of the future," you probably envision a sea of high-tech gadgets, with every household task automated and remote controlled. In designing this home plan #B91010, its creators made it capable of accommodating "smart house" electronics technology, but focused primarily on offering uplifting and comfotable living spaces in which you and your family can both share activities and pursue them individually with ease.

detail shot

On the first level, the activity room is large enough to provide work space and store hobby materials for several members of the family. There's also a sunny, airy exercise room tucked into a corner on the second level.

Two semicircular bays on the second floor that overlook the first level main living spaces are designed to be the children's study and a home office.

The large open great room in the center of the home blends into the dining area and kitchen, making it a splendid place for the family to spend time together in the evenings as well as entertain guests.

There are a lot of windows in this home that provide refreshing daylight, arranged in interesting ways with rectangular paned modules arranged in varied geometric shapes.

The home offers refined options in outdoor living. There are two enclosed side garden areas that can be used for cultivating herbs, vegetables or flowers. And in the backyard, there's room for a pool, hot tub and paved patio.

The exterior styling blends Japanese and Eastern design elements combined with contemporary lines.

How creatively space in the home is used will be more important in the new millennium. The key is to use the space you have in the best way. This home allows you to do do just that, comfortably and creatively.
